About Mickey

Mickey Steele grew up in Lanham, Maryland, graduated from DeMatha High School and later attended the University of Maryland. He was the owner of Kettering Liquors.

Mickey loved life and had a great passion for sports. His devotion took him to great sport venues like the World Series, Daytona 500, Final Fours, Super Bowls, Stanley Cup Finals, ACC Tournaments, and an array of college football and basketball games.

Mickey was diagnosed in 2002 with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Never once during his two year battle with the disease did he ever ask "Why me?" He fought the disease like he lived his life, with everything he had and always thinking of others.

Leukemia may have cut short Mickey's life but through his family, friends, and the golf tournament, his legacy will live on in all of us.

Our Mission

The goal of our Tournament is to keep the memory of Mickey Steele in our hearts and minds. By raising money for a charitable cause we can continue Mickey's fight against Leukemia. While Mickey may have lost his 2 year battle, many others continue theirs. With your help we can aid them in their battle in Mickey's honor.
